Meet the Chef

My name is Megan and I was born in May of 1985. Cooking has always been a big part of my life. I never went to school for it, but I worked in a corporate restaurant as an assistant kitchen manager for a few years. I eventually moved on to a casual fine dining restaurant, where I had my eyes opened to a whole new world of cooking. I learned many new skills and techniques on the job. I had the freedom to create meals and I loved it. My life was going in the perfect direction - or so I thought. In November of 2007, the night before Thanksgiving, my whole world changed.

I was in a 4 wheeling accident while under the influence of alcohol that broke my back, leaving me permanently paralyzed at 22 years old. While I could no longer work as a chef in a fast paced restaurant, I didn't let that stop me from keeping my passion. My paralysis has opened many amazing doors for me. There is a self motto that I live by and it is this:

My legs may have been taken from me, but my life wasn't. For that I will be forever grateful.

Play the video above to watch me talk about my recovery with Carolina's Rehabilitation.

I created this website as a way to help motivate and inspire people that like to cook, but don't know where or how to start. Whether you live your life in a chair or not, these step by step picture recipes will allow everyone to be the chef they aspire to be.

Before my accident you would never catch me in a gym or playing sports. Now, I know just how important keeping fit and staying strong is, and I've got ASAP to thank for that. I am involved in all sorts of adaptive sports ranging from hand cycling to waterskiing. I absolutely love participating in as much as I can. I enjoy meeting new people and making lasting friendships. It means the world to me. I guess you could say I'm living in para-dise.

  1. Love your article and motivation to keep active!
Have a son 30 who is a para and we're moving to
Asheville in 2014 and he loves to cook.
Can you give any tips on how a creative, artistic
musical, computer geek could get around there?

    Thanks,
